We get asked all the time what blender we use. Currently, it's the Vitamix 5200.
When YouOnPlants first started teaching plant-based cooking three years ago, we were using a pitiful little $30 Oster blender. It didn't take many versions of cashew cream for it to throw a gasket and quit. It was time for us to invest in a professional model.
We turned to the masses, surveying Facebook groups, reading reviews (did you know there are multiple websites dedicated to blender reviews?) and comparing the product specifications for the Big Two: Vitamix and BlendTec. Ultimately, we decided to go with Vitamix based on overall customer satisfaction, but then we had to pick a model.
There are three tiers:
Smart System includes wireless technology and "self-detect" containers. We decided we don't need a blender that works off an app, as cool as that sounds.
The Space Saving line is a great option if you want to keep your blender on your kitchen counter all the time. The shorter, wider pitcher will fit under upper cabinets and still allow you to blend large batches.
We ultimately went with the Classic line. Easy to control, but plenty of power. We considered the 750, professional Series 750 and the 780, but settled on the 5200 and we are extremely pleased with the performance.
The 5200 delivers smooth smoothies, creamy salad dressings and instant hot soups for a reasonable price of approximately $400.
