Do I have to go 100% plant based to benefit my health?

plant based diet, you on plants

The short answer.

No, any positive changes you make will have a positive impact on your health. Virtually every diet that has ever been published has touted the benefits of increasing consumption of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

Take baby steps.

Start with having meatless Mondays, or changing one meal per day to all plants. See how that goes for a while, and then add another meal or another day.

Change your plate.

Make meat your side item, filling most of your plate with plant foods. One reason people in Asian countries have much lower rates of lifestyle diseases is that they use meat to flavor foods, not as their main staple.

Start with dairy.

I have to say it: Dairy is Scary! If you want to start with one change, replace dairy products with plant based milk, cheese, yogurt, and ice cream. If you are one of those people who thinks they are addicted to cheese, read The Cheese Trap.

Assess your motivation.

I started out concerned mainly for my health, but learning about the way the animal product industry hurts animals and our planet has become my motivation for staying with it. It's such a win-win-win for me, my environment, and the animals I share that with.

You're not alone.

There are so many great support groups out in the world to help you learn and meet like-minded people. You will find Facebook and Meetup groups, local veg festivals and potluck dinners, and countless blogs, websites, books, and videos to give you information and support.
